Heather

Not quite the Heather artwork you remember?

Despite doing a fairly thorough job of scanning up my original artwork, there were a few characters that I had some trouble with. Neither Michael nor myself had historical preservation in mind when creating these comics 20 years ago, and her character existed more in photoshop than on paper.

Going back, Heather’s source files weren’t as well preserved as I would have hoped. Why did I say “files” instead of “file”? Because Heather has taken on several different forms.

Despite being based on a real person, our good friend never bothered to pose for a drawing. Combine that with my complete unfamiliarity with the human form, and I wound up redoing her artwork over and over during the original run of the comic.

I would draw her, do horrific job, then go back and replace the artwork days, weeks, and months later. Heather usually had a bag, that bag usually had a ribbon, and I'm pretty sure she had hair.

So, depending on when everyone read the comic, they would have seen drastically different versions of Heather.

In that grand tradition, here is yet another version of Heather. I believe this is the most accurate based on her real-life appearance. But my memory could be off, and she may have changed her shirt in the last 20 years. Who knows? Nobody talks to me from those days, certainly not Heather.

PS- The character of Don Haskett is also based on Heather. Add that to your list of Dr. Lobster trivia you never cared to know.
