Fun Dr. Lobster fact: Many of these jokes, characters, and plots came from a college radio show hosted by Michael Buonauro and myself. For a few short months before the start of Dr. Lobster, we owned the airwaves… from 2am-6am... Sunday nights... within a few blocks of Rollins College... a school that neither of us attended.

As non-students, we were given the graveyard shift and told to play songs from a specific list. Only after the list had been played were we free to play our own choices.

We followed the rules to the letter by playing several songs at once.

The rest of the time was ours to fill. We did skits, talked to callers, and played the worst songs we could find in the school’s library. Because the station decreed that no songs would be repeated within 3 hours, we spent the last hour of our show playing the favorite songs of the DJs that followed us (they were too cool to talk to us when we first met-- while we were petty, vengeful people).

For some reason, our show wasn’t appreciated by station management. After only 3 months, our time was cut to an hour at 2am. Although we technically quit a few weeks later, it isn’t an exaggeration to say we were pushed out the door.

Fun historical fact: Radio is what was listened to in the age shortly following vaudeville but before the existence spotify and podcasts. Radio is dead these days, but I hear that Satellite Radio is going to be the future.
