Dead Bodies

February 1, 2020 - News Post

Hello readers. I’m Jeff Lofvers. These are some comics I made with Michael Buonauro 20 years ago. I’ve been redoing them in HD quality.

This early era of comics contain some of my all time favorites. Our brains were fresh and new to this, and we hadn’t been corrupted by the evil influence of readers just yet. If you travel with me back in time, perhaps I can illustrate what that was like...

It was somewhere around 2-3 weeks in that Michael and I took a late night drive. The goal was to write comics on the road, and write comics we did.

Around midnight one night, we hopped into the car and headed to the beach (roughly an hour away). When we got to the beach, we turned around and headed back. We were in college, and that is what central florida university students did.

The drive was dark and quiet. I drove, and Michael took notes. Although Michael and I would later write a good deal of these individually, this was our first of many group writing sessions. We laughed, told stories, recalled conversations, and generally had a great time.

When we arrived back in my driveway, we had several pages of notes and about 20 finished scripts. The artwork was done in the standard copy/paste format, so all that remained was to build them. Michael took half the scripts for himself, and held the other half out to me.

As I gripped the papers, he said casually:

“You know… since I took all the notes, technically, I wrote all of the comics. I’m going to tell everyone I wrote these comics.”

I laughed.

And Michael, from that moment on, until the end of his life, kept his word.

What a turd.

If you knew Michael, you’d know he did this sort of thing all the time. He also did it in a way that wasn’t infuriating (or particularly believable). He was a funny guy. I miss that. Not all the time. But sometimes.

Anyway, I hope you like these comics so far. I made all of them.
